UK Mobile Phones

Ian Ball asked:

UK Mobile Phone Manufacturers

Mobile phones in the United Kingdom are manufactured by some of the most renowned names in electronics. LG, Motorola and T-Mobile all offer products in the United Kingdom as well as Sony Ericsson and Samsung. Phones, such as the LG Chocolate or Motorola RAZR, already popular with consumers worldwide, are readily available from retailers in the UK.

As the United Kingdom has one of the largest markets for mobile phone use, it is no surprise so many companies aggressively market their products in the country. The new Apple iPhone is slated to arrive in the UK in the fourth quarter of this year, and should be available for sale by Christmas. Other manufacturers are releasing and pushing their new and exciting products in a steady stream.

UK Mobile Phone Service Providers

There are a few major mobile service providers in the UK. O2, one of the most well-known providers in the UK, is rumored to be getting a huge boost in popularity. According to industry insiders, O2 has won the highly coveted contract to provide service for the Apple iPhone. This is a major boon to the company already hosting close to thirty-six million users in Europe.

Other major providers of mobile phone service in the UK are Orange, 3 and T-Mobile. All have a solid reputation and all offer competitive contracts designed to entice new users. Almost all mobile phone contracts come with a set number of minutes for phone service as well as a number of allowable text messages. Additional charges apply for some extra features, but almost everything most users need is included in the set contract rate.

Contract terms in the UK are shorter than those found elsewhere. The standard contract in the United Kingdom is twelve to eighteen months rather then the two years so common in the United States. And to seal the deal, almost every new UK mobile phone contract comes with very attractive bonuses and perks

UK Mobile Phone Perks

With very few exceptions, new contracts in the United Kingdom come with a free mobile phone. As the market is so competitive, the mobile phone service providers have elected to offer more than the basic phones. Instead they offer high-quality, desirable mobile phones.

Every year or eighteen months, a consumer is able to sign a new contract with the company of his choice and receive not only comfortable contract terms, but a new phone with many of the latest features available. Some companies take the perks a bit further and offer discounts on other merchandise or steep savings on service for the first few months. It’s hard to not find a great deal on a mobile phone contract in the United Kingdom.

Music on your Mobile Phone; Can it Replace your Mp3 Player

February 2nd, 2010

Fletcher Mak asked:

The introduction of the iPod, that lets you carry your CD collection anywhere you like has brought about a revolution in the world of music lovers. Now, mobile phone manufactures are in a constant competition to provide the best music features in mobile phones. Infact, they are putting their best efforts to combine people’s favourites–the phone and their music in single hand held gadget like the mobile phone.

Till few days back, music features on mobile phones were more of a novelty than a feature in its own right. But today with more and more users preferring music on the phone, mobile phones with music capabilities are gaining wide popularity. But, can a music mobile phone replace the MP3 player or other portable music players? The answer may not be agreeable to all users, because the purpose of using a mobile phone is not same for everyone and so is the requirement of music.

Most music mobile phones don’t have much internal memory to store enough music in it. Think about Motorola ROKR, the often described iPod phone, it only has iTunes compatibility and can hold 100 songs in its memory. So most users may not prefer to throw away their 80GB portable audio or video players for a mobile phone with so little memory.

Even when we come to the sound quality it could not meet the standards of a MP3 players. In some phones the sound is so iffy that any music lover may not like to dump his audio player. Moreover, the music mobile phones that could compete with MP3 players are so expensive that an average user cannot afford such mobiles.

Music phones like the LG Chocolate, Nokia Music Xpress and Sony Ericsson Walkman with advanced features and memory are already in the hype. Recently, Apple introduced the iPhone, probably the first dual purpose mobile phone. No doubt, technology is advancing day by day. It is likely that we may get all-in-one hand held gadgets in the coming future, but not every feature will be as perfect in every gadget. While trying make one feature perfect, other features might suffer, and if so happens that for any reason one feature stops functioning than you may have to buy another expensive phone. So depending solely on a single device can be risky at times.

HTC vs Toshiba – who makes the best Windows Mobile phones?

September 30th, 2009

Matt Sharp asked:

Windows Mobile is one of the premier smartphone operating systems in the world today, but which phone shows it off to the full? Let’s find out.

HTC Touch Diamond2

The HTC Touch Diamond2 actually does a very good job of making it so you don’t have to go into standard Windows menus that often, as on top of the operating system, the interface is HTC’s patented TouchFLO 3D setup, where everything is achieved through various finger swipes and sweeping gestures. It is truly intuitive, and it’s the reason why the HTC Touch Diamond2 is such an unmitigated joy to use. Of course, it’s not all about being pretty, a phone needs to have decent features and the HTC Touch Diamond2 has them in spades, from the 5 megapixel camera, through GPS, to incredibly fast HSDPA internet access (not to mention the superb Opera Mobile web browser). To many, the HTC Touch Diamond2 is the ultimate Windows Mobile phone.

HTC Snap – the email device

Anyone who’s used Windows Mobile before will know it’s exceptionally good at emails and info management, and the HTC Snap is no exception to that rule. You get the same excellent POP3 and Exchange Server (for your corporate emails) support, but the HTC Snap also includes something new: Inner Circle. This is a new feature for the HTC Snap, that lets you set an Inner Circle of friends or important people, and automatically prioritises emails from them, to make sure you get the emails that matter the most, first.

Toshiba TG01

On the one hand, there’s the HTC Touch Diamond2 on one hand, and on the other, with a full QWERTY keyboard and exceptional email, there’s the HTC Snap. But what about raw power. Windows Mobile needs a lot of power to run at its best. The OS has taken a lot of stick form people in the past, most notably from Apple fans, but the new Toshiba TG01 brings it up to a level that can actually compete with something like the iPhone 3GS. You see, the Toshiba TG01 has the two things WinMo needs to make it run really well: a powerful processor (coming in at 1GHz) and a massive screen (coming in at an unbelievable 4.1 inches). Combine that with a custom front end, as well as a 3 megapixel camera, and a custom user interface, and the Toshiba TG01 is easily the most well-featured Windows Mobile phone ever made.
