Very Cheap Mobile Phones For The Future

November 16th, 2009

Michael Clark asked:

Anyone would be crazy to not want very cheap mobile phones. The number of people that own mobile phones is such a high number that it could possibly make sense for the cell phone service providers to give away high end phones in order to secure new customers to their company. It is crazy to think kids under the age of 10 are getting mobile phones from their parents for emergencies or so the parents can make sure their kids are ok at any given moment.

I would propose that selling very cheap mobile phones that offer the latest technology for less that $50 could be a lucrative idea to generate new subscribers to their network. I would be willing to sign a two year contract if I could get a $500 mobile phone for $50 or less. I think that cell phone networks may start to do something of this nature to lure in new customers or steal customers from their competition.

Most cell phone networks are established enough these days that the service is good no matter who you choose to role with. Most consumers want to have the latest and greatest mobile phone, but do not like having to pay $500 every two years to get the phone they want. Thus my idea of very cheap mobile phones available for sale would stir up a lot of action in the industry that is struggling to capture growth and new customers.

Most people have gotten used to the prices that are charged for monthly service so it has become second nature and most people don’t question it anymore. I know many people that have discontinued expensive land lines and use a mobile phone exclusively for all of their phone calls.

One problem I foresee with my philosophy is that very cheap mobile phones could cause problems for the manufactures. The mobile phone networks would be forced to pay the difference between what they sale for phones for and what the manufacturer is selling to them at wholesale prices for. I don’t know if anyone could have foreseen the explosive growth the cell phone industry has seen the last 15 years.

It used to be that the only people that had mobile phones were business people and they paid a fortune to use them. With the expansion of technology that has changed a lot and it seems like it has hit a wall again. What will drive the next level of growth will be the push from investors to keep growing the business. This is why I think they has to be some way for the major players in the market to continue to keep growing so at some point something is going to have to give so that more people subscribe.

I could see some people even getting two and three different phone lines. One idea would be to have one for personal, one for work, and one for other stuff. If the phones were cheaper I would seriously consider adding more lines to my plan. Very cheap mobile phones is the way of the future.
